Bozeman, MT - The Sleeping Giant Fire that was reported on July 11, 2014 has seen little activity since its detection. It remains perched in steep, inaccessible terrain that is skirted by a band of rock. Sleeping Giant is located to the southwest of the East Fork of Hyalite Trailhead. On occasion the fire can be visible from the trailhead and also from Hyalite Dam. Due to the location of the fire, firefighters are not directly staffing the fire on the ground, but the fire is being closely monitored to determine any additional needs. If significant changes to the size of the fire are detected appropriate action will be taken. This might include water drops from helicopters and or possible retardant drops. Our top priority is to keep firefighters and the public safe.
